Activating Change for Child Care

Client: Support for Early Learning and Families (SELF)

Challenge

Support for Early Learning & Families has been serving the children and families of Southwest Washington through advocacy and partnerships at the local and state levels and providing quality child care and early learning opportunities for over two decades. Recognizing the regional child care crisis, SELF sought to establish the Children’s Council, a collaborative effort involving various community partners and leaders. SELF was also seeking guidance to effectively communicate the organization’s story and impact. PointNorth was brought in to provide facilitation, project management, strategic advisory support, strategic communications and video storytelling expertise for these initiatives.

Solutions

PointNorth partnered with Support for Early Learning and Families to launch the Children’s Council. This included conducting discovery conversations with local leaders and advising and supporting the development of foundational work such as a purpose statement, key messaging, and chartering for the Council. PointNorth supported strategic planning for the Council to take a significant step in addressing the systemic childcare challenges in the region through the facilitation of regular Children’s Council meetings comprised of community leaders, providers, early childhood experts, and elected officials.

Additionally, recognizing the power of storytelling, PointNorth assisted SELF in creating an impactful video and strategic communications plan. This video highlighted SELF’s identity, the breadth of their work, and their substantial community impact. The plan provided clear messaging and direction for their amplification efforts.
